Many schools make bold and brash statements about their programs while proclaiming themselves as being number one in the industry. In fact, several of these approved organizations will “Guarantee” that you pass the Captain’s Test or that “they will hold your hand until you hold the license”. Not only are these claims misleading, they violate the Coast Guard’s written approval policy.

Mariners Learning System™ has chosen to let our students successes speak for themselves. Effective immediately, we will be posting our national test average scores on a monthly basis. These scores will be the raw data and will not be altered or manipulated in anyway.

Instead of making false or unsubstantiated claims, we believe that by posting this data and providing accurate licensing information on our website will enable you to make an informed decision as to whether you want to entrust Mariners Learning System™ with your educational dollars.

Our teaching style is based on making the assumption that you know nothing. This does not mean that we speak down to you, it simply means that we will build the foundation on which you will learn. We believe that you need to crawl before you walk and that you need to walk before you run. By incorporating this methodology with our standard practice of teaching understanding, not just how to pass the USCG Exam, we enjoy a success rate that is unrivaled in the industry.

When we taught in a classroom style format we offered our OUPV/Six-pack course over three weekends. The original concept was that a student would come for the first weekend then go home and absorb their newfound knowledge over the week and return to repeat the procedure… Utilizing this process we enjoyed a 92% national test average score. We were very proud of these results since our instructors never had access to the final Captain’s Exam. This ensured that the course, and not the test, was being taught. When we went to an online format our national test score actually rose to an average of 94%. This is an average that we have been able to maintain with more than 25,000 students taking our online courses since 2007.

To better understand these results we called and spoke with the first 200+ students to get their feedback. Almost every one of the students attributed their success to being able to study on their own time and schedule. Over time we found that the problem with teaching in a classroom was that our average student had not been in a classroom in more than 20 years… Watching these students sit in a classroom for 8 hours a day was painful for them and torturous for us. By taking their course online, the student was now in charge of their learning schedule.

When we developed and launched an APP that allowed our students to now access our audio lectures and training videos on their Blackberry, iPhone, iPad, Mp4 player, and most smart phones we opened the learning process to a truly Anytime, Anywhere experience.
